Central bank raises 2021 liquidity surplus forecast to 1.5 tln rbl

MOSCOW, May 4 (PRIME) -- The Russian central bank has raised the 2021 forecast for structural liquidity surplus of banks to 0.9–1.5 trillion rubles from 0.8–1.4 trillion rubles, it said in a statement on Tuesday.

The forecast presumes a gradual return of some cash to the banks in several years after an increase of demand during the pandemic.

"But taking into account the real figures for the first quarter, the forecast for return of cash to the banks was cut by 0.2 trillion rubles. This means that small growth of cash in circulation is possible in 2021," the central bank said.

The forecast also presumes that banks average their obligatory reserves evenly. Taking into account the monetary supply forecast, surplus on the correspondent accounts of banks with the central bank is to rise by 0.2 trillion rubles to 3.1 trillion rubles at the end of 2021.
